RRA HISTORY

1999

On the 24 May 1999 a meeting was held at the Fontainebleau Laerskool hall by residents who were concerned with the escalation of crime in the RRA area. Incidents of crime were in excess of 30 per month and this meeting of residents agreed to the formation of the RRA Residents Associations with the objective of raising funds to fence off all access roads and install boom controls at 5 selected roads.

On the 4th October, after approval from the City Council had been obtained our area was fenced off and guards were manning our booms at Catherine, Hester, Maria, Cherry and Fairway. Due to the financial contributions of over 88% of our residents, at R120 per house and R60 per cluster we were able to spend R124,000 on the erection of the seven road closures, booms, lighting and guard huts.

2002

At the beginning of 2002 representatives from the golf course area contacted the committee to request that their area be incorporated into our security area. Approval was granted by the City Council and our Fairway boom was relocated to Klub and Maree was fenced off.

Although incidents of crime did drop significantly on the introduction of fencing and booms, crime did still occur.

2008

The number of residents contributing started to reduce and by January 2008 our percentage had dropped to 52%. The committee realized that if this reduction continued we would eventually lose our security.

In May 2008 we had a Special Meeting to discuss the proposed employment of Piranha (now Securitas) and the majority attending that meeting agreed to go ahead and employ Piranha on the basis that Piranha would carry the Debt of the RRA until the RRA was in a financial position to pay the full monthly invoice. So Piranha took over the RRA Security from June 2008. They have provided a dedicated patrolling armed response vehicle on a 24/7 basis. The RRA pays Piranha for the services of the 24/7 guards at our 5 booms and the dedicated vehicle. Residents pay the RRA monthly, and residents with alarm systems are linked to the Piranha control room and the patrolling vehicle simultaneously, ensuring immediate assistance when their alarm is activated.

2010

Piranha purchased by Securitas in December.
